Our suites are designed to offer the best experience for editors and assistant editors to work together side by side. But for projects where a someone either lives far away, the editing team are on location for the shoot or where the editors just want to work from home for a few days, we have several options to best accommodate your needs.
Our internet runs at 1Gbps upload and download so the limit is normally only restricted by what the user has remotely.
Fast Cache
Using the editors own kit at home or on location and a portable SSD hard drive to cache some of the data to run faster, FastCache connects to our shared storage and keeps all files secure -only approved machines can connect to our server through WANlink (a better option than VPN) and only when they are connected can the SSD be accessed. This option is fast and secure and playback can be even quicker than a low broadband connection would normally use. As the editor is not using a full edit suite this option offers the opportunity for a cost saving.
Jumpdesk / Teamviewer
This uses our equipment and licenses that the editor remotes into, our equipment does all the processing and editing and the editor sees what is displayed on the screens in our suite. This option is suitable if the editor doesn’t have a full set up at home or wants to work from home occasionally. As the remote login is only sending a picture of what our screens are showing instead of actually processing the footage it may not require a very high speed internet connection and is also a good option for assistants to check on footage downloaded overnight etc.
SalonSync
This uses extra servers (one per editor/asst location) from Salon Rentals. This keeps a separate copy of the edit on each individual server with the separate servers syncing with each other over the internet. Salon charge a weekly fee for each box but this offers a good option if there are several editors at the beginning of an edit all in different locations or throughout the edit. This system uses NAS rather than SAN storage which can be slower but because each editor has a local server the drawbacks of this should be minimal. The boxes can be connected to our equipment and it can be combined with Jumpdesk/Teamviewer if the editor or assistant wants to work away from the office for a few days.
